I am constantly adding to my collection of plates, cups and recipes. But what is exactly amuse-bouche?
It's a single, bite-sized hors d’œuvre, a starting tasty snack to amuse your mouth. In simple words, it's a very small bite of any type of food you can imagine made to look very pretty that you want to take a picture of it first before you eat to have a lasting effect because otherwise, it will only last seconds :)
My interest in amuse-bouche is part of my taste for beautiful things in general but my interest in making it started when I changed my eating
habits to several small meals a day. Amuse bouche sounded like the perfect thing to make, in fact, I just drifted to making meals that looked like amuse bouche and I started to elaborate my recipes even more ...
The idea of making amuse bouche type food is not only only part of a healthy diet but also a healthy mind. Eating smaller meals has always been advised by most experts from doctors to nutritionist and personal trainers to be one of the best way to increase your metabolism and loose weight. But good looking food makes us also eat slowly and for whatever reason, it makes us happy:)
Why small portions?
Well think of your body like just like a car, imagine you were to put just a small amount of fuel into a car and then force the car to work that bit harder in order to use the last amounts of fuel in the tank before adding more fuel to continue onward. So, you will add “fuel” to your body several times throughout the day, kick-starting your metabolism to work that little bit harder for you.
We also have more control over what we eat when we eat frequently. When you are very hungry, you might feel that you do not care about the portion size or calorie content, as long as you get full! While this is a natural mechanism, it can prove to be a problem when you are trying to control your portions. Eating more often changes how your body seeks food, and you will always have something in your stomach, making you feel less hungry.
For me, it arouses the palate and the mind. It's not just fuel, it's beautiful fuel:) this makes you want to eat it slowly and make it as small and pretty as you can, therefore more enjoyable.
